New Brunswick Electricity Rebate Estimated to Save Residential Customers $92.6M Annually
January 8, 2025
Eligible residential electricity customers will receive a 10 per cent rebate on their monthly electricity usage beginning in January.
The amount of the rebate will be equivalent to the provincial portion of the HST.
“Our government understands that people are struggling with the rising cost of almost everything, including power bills,” said Premier Susan Holt. “With temperatures falling, many of us will soon be turning up our thermostats to stay warm during the coldest days. With energy costs continuing to climb, we are providing affordability relief that will ensure New Brunswickers can stay warm this winter.”
“We promised New Brunswickers that we would make life more affordable and save them 10 per cent on their electricity bill, and our government has moved quickly to make this happen,” said Finance and Treasury Board Minister René Legacy.
The government is working with NB Power, Saint John Energy, Edmundston Energy and the Perth-Andover Electric Light Commission to administer the rebate, which will be displayed on electricity bills as “GNB 10% rebate.”
Affordability is one of the government’s primary commitments. About $32 million is being invested in this program for the current fiscal year, followed by a permanent investment of $92.6 million beginning in 2025-26.
More information about the rebate and who is eligible to receive it is available online.
