November 28, 2023

ENMAX is pleased to have its commitment to sustainability and safety recognized with two distinct Electricity Canada awards—the 2023 Sustainable Electricity award for its Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) Framework and the President’s Award for Safety Excellence in Distribution.

ENMAX received the sustainable electricity award in the category of Advancement of an Integrated Approach which recognizes outstanding leadership in the development, implementation and maintenance of an integrated sustainability strategy. ENMAX’s ESG framework guides its annual ESG report with four pillars—climate change and the energy transition, diversity, inclusion and belonging, energy affordability and governance.

“ENMAX’s approach to our ESG framework is rooted in the principle that ESG is good business and good for the communities we serve,” said ENMAX’s Director of ESG Performance and Reporting Jennifer Saldana. “We’re honoured to have our teams recognized for the development of a framework that aligns with our values and guides us to take meaningful action on our ESG goals.”

Since ENMAX’s ESG work began, it has made progress toward goals in energy affordability, advancing electrification, reducing emissions, adapting to a changing climate and investing in grid resilience while enabling a diverse and inclusive team and ensuring continued access to safe and reliable energy.

ENMAX also received Electricity Canada President’s Award for Safety Excellence in the Distribution category. It is given to electricity service providers who have achieved the top ranking in Total Recordable Injury Frequency among their peers.

“Safety is a core value that guides everything we do,” said ENMAX’s Vice President of Safety Jason Doering. “Everyone at ENMAX makes the health and safety of themselves, their coworkers and the public their priority every day—and this award recognizes that commitment and dedication.”

As a member of Electricity Canada, ENMAX follows the national standard for Canadian utility companies and reports statistical safety data on an annual basis. In the past decade, ENMAX’s safety performance has consistently ranked among the top quartile utility companies in its category.
