Bruce Power and Hatch Partnership Continues to Support Life-Extension Program and Low Cost Power

Bruce Power and Hatch Ltd. have signed two more contracts to support Bruce Power’s Life-Extension Program.
Both contracts involve the completion of preliminary engineering activities, the first for a new protected area office complex (PAOC), and the second for a new decontamination facility. Hatch, a Canadian and employee-owned engineering, procurement and construction management firm, will complete both scopes in order to upgrade facilities for Bruce Power’s Major Component Replacement (MCR) program.
Extending the life of the Bruce Power site will ensure the electricity it provides Ontario families and businesses continues to be part of the solution now and into the future, to provide a source of low-cost, stable electricity. The Unit 6 Major Component Replacement Project gets underway in 2020 and is part of Bruce Power’s Life-Extension Program, which will extend the life of the Bruce site until 2064 and ensure Bruce Power nuclear continues to provide low-cost electricity for families and business for decades.

The PAOC will provide additional office, meeting, locker room and lunch space within the Bruce B protected area in close proximity to the construction activities to save time and increase efficiency. The upgraded decontamination facility will provide a location for the safe, secure and efficient cleaning of MCR tooling and equipment.
“Preliminary engineering of these facilities will assist in the safe and efficient execution of the Major Component Replacement outages,” said Fred Ruegg, Senior Program Manager, Projects. “The facility will support Bruce Power’s Life-Extension Program, and the preliminary engineering phase of this project will directly and indirectly employ approximately 50 engineers and other support staff.”
The two new contracts follow the announcement of an earlier contract for feeder mock-up design services, which will also be completed by Hatch in partnership with Bruce Power.
