EHRC Bursaries Now Open: Empowering Women to Power Canada’s Grid

February 2, 2026

Women remain underrepresented in technology, engineering, and trades roles across Canada’s electricity sector—yet their participation is essential to building a clean, resilient energy future.

To help close this gap, EHRC is offering two $2,000 bursaries to support women entering or currently enrolled in trades or STEM programs. Along with providing financial support, recipients gain access to mentorship and professional development opportunities through EHRC.

Eligible applicants include women and non-binary individuals who are Canadian citizens or permanent residents enrolled in a Canadian post‑secondary institution or trade school for the 2026–2027 academic year. This includes part‑time and full‑time students, as well as apprentices in years 1–5, with an interest in the electricity sector.

The 2025 recipients reflect the impact of these awards. Trades bursary recipient Mekalah Leach-Rathwell is using the support to advance her training and mentor future apprentices, helping expand women’s representation in the trades. STEM recipient Selam Demoz highlights how gender diversity drives innovation and strengthens engineering solutions.
