Electrical Safety Authority Urges Vigilance After 50% Uptick in Powerline Fatalities
The Electrical Safety Authority (ESA) is issuing an important reminder to Ontarians following a 50 per cent increase in powerline-related fatalities in the province. This Powerline Safety Week (May 13 to 19), the ESA is sharing crucial tips to stay safe around powerlines, both at home and at work. According to the latest Ontario Electrical Safety Report, between 2018-2022, there were 12 fatalities due to powerline contact – a 50 per cent increase from 2013-2017. In the past 10 years, there have been nearly 1,400 powerline contacts and 45 per cent of all electrical-related fatalities in the province were from powerline contact.
