K-Line Announces Completion of Winnifred Windfarm 138kV Transmission Line Project

April 8, 2025
K-Line have announced the successful completion of an 138kV transmission line EPC project. Located near Medicine Hat, Alberta, this 24 km transmission line is a key part of connecting the new wind farm substation to an existing substation just south of the city.
The 136,4 MW Winnifred Wind Project, developed by Enerfin Energy, is located on privately-owned land approximately 5.5 km north of the hamlet of Whitla, in the County of Forty Mile No. 8, and Cypress County.
“The construction of the line included self-supporting steel deadends, steel slip-joint monopoles, 477 MCM conductor, OPGW, and the installation of bird diverters using drone technology – a cutting-edge approach to ensure precision and efficiency,” K-Line explained in a LinkedIn post.

“Despite the challenges faced—ranging from wetland crossings to active nesting sites and highway crossings—we successfully coordinated with landowners, local counties, utility representatives, and substation owners to keep things on track. Our teams’ ability to navigate environmental considerations and handle unexpected hurdles was crucial to the project’s success.
At the heart of this achievement was the strong collaboration and clear communication between our client, contractors, and partners. Thanks to their efforts, we were able to deliver this project on time and on budget, helping to strengthen the renewable energy infrastructure in the region.
We’re proud of the work we’ve done and the positive impact this project will have on sustainable energy!”
