Saint John Energy Installing Ten New EV Charging Stations, Including Four Fast Chargers

Saint John Energy is installing 10 new EV chargers – including four Level 3 fast chargers – in Saint John under a project partially funded by Natural Resources Canada.
As part of the announcement, representatives from Saint John Energy and Natural Resources Canada outlined how the $380,000 project will bolster the availability of electric vehicle charging in the city.
Glen Fillmore, Executive Director, Strategic Growth and Transformation at Saint John Energy, praised the Government of Canada along with Commercial Properties and the University of New Brunswick, which have jumped onboard as partners to host the new stations.
“This is an important step forward in the clean energy transition for Saint John,” Fillmore said. “As part of our Zero30 initiative to reach net zero emissions by 2030, we are looking for ways to help our customers move to electricity to meet their transportation needs and we welcome partners to help with the journey.”
Paul McKiel, President of Commercial Properties Limited, said: “We are pleased to be part of the initiative and provide sustainable options for our community. It is an exciting opportunity to expand our current program to include additional EV chargers uptown, including a dual level 3 ‘fast charger.’ As the community continues to invest in more sustainable transportation options, we are eager to provide residents, visitors, and tenants with more ways to power up their vehicles.”
Natural Resources Canada is funding half of the cost of the project at $190,000 through its Zero Emission Vehicle Infrastructure Program.
Wayne Long, Member of Parliament for Saint John-Rothesay, announced the federal funding today on behalf of the Honourable Jonathan Wilkinson, Canada’s Minister of Energy and Natural Resources.
“Electric vehicles are an invaluable tool in combating the impacts of climate change. These investments will expand our network of charging stations, allowing more people in our community to access clean transportation options. People in Saint John–Rothesay are making the switch to EV vehicles and they expect access to convenient and reliable charging and that is exactly what today’s announcement will provide,” Long said.
Installation of all 10 new chargers has begun and they are expected to be in service by the end of the year. The chargers will be owned, operated and maintained by Saint John Energy. They will be located at:
- UNB Saint John campus, 100 Tucker Park Rd. Two Level 3 and two Level 2 chargers.
- Commercial Properties: Red Rose Building, 12 Smythe St. Two Level 3 chargers.
- Commercial Properties: Station Street parking lot, 100 Station St. Two Level 2 chargers.
- Commercial Properties: Parking lot, 33-47 Sewell St. Two Level 2 chargers.
