Hubbell Canada’s Aerial Slack Storage Line Addresses FTTx Drop Management Challenges
Hubbell Canada’s Opti-Loop™ Fiber Optic Storage (FOS) system has surpassed one million units in service, reflecting widespread adoption across North American aerial fiber networks. The product family, available in aluminum and plastic variants for strand, messenger, and ADSS-mounted applications provide structured slack storage for outside plant fiber installations where excess cable length must be managed without creating hazards or compromising cable bend radius.
The aluminum Opti-Loop™ FOS is offered in 10” to 30” sizes and supports both strand-mounted and messenger-mounted configurations, making it suitable for traditional lashed cable plants on distribution and feeder routes. The plastic Opti-Loop™ FOS line, in 12” and 17” sizes, covers ADSS and messenger-mounted applications.
For fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) last-mile deployments, Hubbell has developed the Plastic 8” Horse-Shoe for FTTx a purpose-built drop slack storage device for use at Fiber Distribution Terminals (FDTs) and multi-port terminals. The Horse-Shoe design stores the coil horizontally rather than hanging vertically, reducing the risk of cable damage from vibration and wind loading at the termination point, and improving the visual neatness of FTTx drop attachments in densely served areas.
A Plastic Opti-Loop™ Cable Wheel in a 14” size completes the lineup, along with a range of hardware mounting kits. The variety of sizes, materials, and mounting styles allows network designers to standardize on a single product family across diverse aerial fiber applications from backbone ADSS routes to FTTH last drops reducing inventory complexity and training requirements for OSP construction crews.
