Newfoundland Power Warns of Dangers Following Vandalism at Multiple Substations

Newfoundland Power is warning about the dangers of tampering with electrical infrastructure after break-ins and thefts occurred at substations in Gambo, Hare Bay and Greenspond, resulting in power outages in the surrounding communities. Newfoundland and Labrador RCMP is investigating.
Evidence of the break-ins was discovered early this morning. The suspect or suspects gained entry to the three substations and damaged electrical equipment, leaving more than 250 customers without power.
Tampering with the high-voltage electricity system is extremely dangerous and can result in serious injury or death. These actions create significant safety risks not only for those involved, but also for employees, contractors and the general public. Always obey all safety signs and warnings around electrical facilities and equipment.
