October 25, 2023

Electricity Human Resources Canada (EHRC) announces the launch of the Great Canadian Electricity Map in
partnership with Canadian Geographic Education (CanGEO) at the Royal Canadian Geographical Society headquarters in Ottawa. The groundbreaking initiative will bring interactive maps to the floors of school gymnasiums across Canada. The project’s goal is to inspire the next generation of innovators and leaders to discover, interact with and aspire to join the clean energy industry.

“This initiative brings an innovative approach to teach young minds about the electricity sector in Canada and how it contributes to Canada achieving its climate change targets The Great Canadian Electricity Map introduces
Canadian students to the innovative ideas, and people, driving Canada’s sustainable energy future. The map highlights the importance of sticking with STEM studies through high school to access electricity sector careers.” says Michelle Branigan, CEO, EHRC.

Bilingual educational resources will be distributed via CanGEO’s extensive network, spanning over 22,000 schools nationwide. These resources will be accessible through EHRC and CanGEO’s online platforms. Funded by Natural Resources Canada’s Smart Renewables Electrification Pathways Stream), these giant maps are a part of EHRC’s multi-faceted Greening a Generation initiative. EHRC is also thankful for the support of The Canadian Union of Skilled Workers (CUSW) as the maps’ title sponsor and the support of Hydro One and the Alberta Electricity Systems Operator (AESO) in bringing this project to young people across Canada.
