Webinar: Supporting Tradespeople who Use Substances

February 16, 2024

This webinar is being co-hosted by CAF-FCA and the Canadian Association of People who Use Drugs (CAPUD).  CAPUD believes tradespeople’s perspectives and lived experiences are crucial to developing supportive policies and programs. This webinar will provide an opportunity to learn from CAPUD and tradespeople who use substances. Discussion themes include:

  • Current challenges
  • Needed supports
  • Recommendations

The goal of the webinar is to encourage positive actions that will make things better for tradespeople. There is still work to do when it comes to reducing stigma against substance users. More than half of tradespeople who responded to CAF-FCA’s 2022 survey thought seeking help at work for substance use would make them look weak.  Almost half felt asking for help at work would negatively impact their careers.

Tradespeople strongly supported counselling (50 per cent), mentoring (42 per cent), and peer-to-peer groups (42 per cent) as the most effective ways to support substance users.
