From Awareness to Action: How Make the Switch Is Advancing Canada’s Energy Future

June 19, 2026

By Electro Federation Canada

EFC continues to expand its advocacy efforts to ensure the electrical and automation industry’s voice is represented in conversations shaping Canada’s energy future.

Through Make the Switch, EFC is advancing research, thought leadership, stakeholder engagement, and policy discussions focused on Canada’s energy transition and electrified future. The campaign’s next phase reflects EFC’s commitment to turning awareness into action through research, advocacy, and meaningful engagement with policymakers.

Industry Expertise Is Being Heard

One of the clearest indicators of progress is the growing engagement from policymakers.

Since the beginning of 2026, EFC has been invited to participate in five government testimony opportunities, helping bring member perspectives directly into discussions on electrification, energy infrastructure, workforce development, economic competitiveness, and Canada’s energy future.

This level of engagement reflects growing recognition that Canada’s electrical and automation industry is an essential partner in advancing the country’s energy transition.

Increased engagement with policymakers creates more opportunities for EFC to bring member perspectives, challenges, and expertise directly into conversations that shape Canada’s energy future.

Make the Switch Priorities

Make the Switch identified three areas where Canada must make the switch to electric:

  • A Next-Generation Grid
Modernizing Canada’s electricity system to support growing demand and improve resilience.
  • Deep Building Retrofits and Fuel Switching
Transitioning buildings to efficient electric technologies.
  • Expansion of Zero-Emission Vehicle Infrastructure
    Supporting transportation electrification across Canada.

Introducing Unlocking Canada’s Grid

As part of Make the Switch, EFC has launched Unlocking Canada’s Grid, a focused initiative that explores one of the campaign’s core priorities: building the next-generation grid needed to support Canada’s growing electricity demands.

Canada’s electrification journey is accelerating. As transportation, buildings, industry, and communities increasingly adopt electric technologies, electricity demand is expected to rise significantly in the years ahead.

Meeting that demand will require strategic investments, modern infrastructure, innovative technologies, and policies that support reliability, affordability, and resilience.

Supported by new research and policy recommendations, Unlocking Canada’s Grid examines the opportunities and challenges associated with strengthening Canada’s electrical infrastructure and ensuring the grid is prepared to support long-term economic growth and Canada’s energy future.

Expanding Industry Reach and Leadership

To further advance industry priorities, EFC has expanded its advocacy efforts through a coordinated communications and stakeholder engagement strategy.

This includes:
  • A national opinion piece published in The Hill Times
  • Partnerships with The Line and On The Line podcasts
  • Targeted digital advocacy campaigns
  • Ongoing government and stakeholder engagement

To expand the reach of industry perspectives beyond traditional sector audiences, EFC’s partnerships with The Line and On The Line help bring conversations about electrification, energy infrastructure, economic competitiveness, and Canada’s energy future to a broader policy and public affairs audience.

The current digital campaign is running during Parliament’s sitting period, helping raise awareness of industry priorities among federal policymakers and influencers. A second phase will launch this fall as Parliament returns and discussions begin around future budget priorities and policy initiatives.

Together, these efforts are helping ensure the industry’s voice is represented in conversations shaping Canada’s energy future.

New Member Advocacy Toolkit

To help members participate in advocacy efforts, EFC is launching a new Member Advocacy Toolkit available exclusively to member companies.

The toolkit includes ready-to-use social media content, graphics, messaging, and campaign resources designed to make participation simple and impactful.

By sharing campaign content and engaging with advocacy initiatives, members can help strengthen awareness of the industry’s contributions to innovation, economic growth, sustainability, and electrification.

Information on accessing the toolkit will be shared directly with EFC members.

Moving Forward Together

Canada’s energy transition presents significant opportunities for innovation, investment, and growth. By working together, EFC members can help ensure the electrical and automation industry’s expertise continues to inform the decisions that will shape Canada’s energy future.

Members are encouraged to explore the Unlocking Canada’s Grid research, access the Member Advocacy Toolkit, and share campaign content to help amplify the industry’s role in shaping Canada’s energy future.
