Oshawa Power Crews Supporting Restoration Efforts After Ontario Ice Storms

April 8, 2025
Oshawa Power crews are continuing to assist Hydro One with power restoration following the devastating ice storms that impacted communities across Ontario at the end of March and early April.

A five-person Oshawa Power crew, supported by two bucket trucks, has been deployed since early Tuesday morning, working with Hydro One crews in the northeast Clarington area. The team remained on standby (as of April 4) for reassignment to other affected regions as needed, based on the evolving restoration efforts.
“When major storms strike, causing this level of damage to local electricity grids, mutual support becomes essential,” said Daniel Arbour, Prescient & CEO of Oshawa Power. “We’re proud to support Hydro One and provide resources to help restore power safely and as quickly as possible for those affected. We are also incredibly proud of our crew members’ commitment to serving those beyond our borders and helping restore this essential service.”
Restoration efforts have been assisted by neighbouring utilities as part of the Hydro One Mutual Assistance Plan and other mutual assistance agreements, bringing together crews from across Ontario and other parts of the country as the utilities collaborate to restore power across the province.

The recent storms caused widespread outages and infrastructure damage across much of Ontario, prompting a largescale response from multiple utilities. Oshawa Power was fortunate to avoid major damage within its own service territory, allowing the utility to quickly mobilize support for neighbouring areas.
