In November 2023, Hydro-Québec published its Action Plan 2035 – Towards a Decarbonized and Prosperous Québec, with the goals to better serve its customers, decarbonize Québec and contribute to its economic development. Capital Power Corporation and Ontario Power Generation (“OPG”) have entered into an agreement to jointly assess the development and deployment of grid-scale small modular reactors (SMRs) to provide clean, reliable nuclear energy for Alberta. Through the agreement, the two companies will examine the feasibility of developing SMRs in Alberta, including possible ownership and operating structures. SMRs are being pursued by jurisdictions in Canada and around the world to power the growing demand for clean electricity and energy security.

Hydro One crews have worked around the clock, restoring power to more than 125,220 customers affected by the damaging high winds that battered parts of western, southern, central and eastern Ontario, since the winter storm began Friday. The 748 outages were largely caused by severe winds bringing down trees and branches onto distribution lines. The company continues to urge customers in southern Ontario to remain prepared for additional outages as strong winds continue for the next 24 hours.
Alectra Utilities made a significant investment of $5 million in Aurora to strengthen and modernize the power grid in response to growing customer electricity demands. With parts of Aurora’s system nearing the end of its life cycle, Alectra took steps proactively to renew deteriorating infrastructure. These upgrades are essential to maintain reliability and stabilize the existing system to reduce outage impacts in the community.
