Hermanville Wind Farm Repair Update

Hermanville Wind Farm was not operating at its peak ability due to turbine issues. In 2023, there were major repairs to turbines T1, T2, T3, T5 and T7. Repairs have resulted in better energy generation. The repairs will extend the life of existing shafts and improve the reliability of new ones. April 2024 was the best energy producing month in more than two years at over 6,000 MWh produced from eight turbines, with four of those turbines running above 97% availability.

Ontario Lands Major Nuclear Agreements Abroad; Creates Jobs at Home

The Ontario Government announced the completion of the first phase of site preparation for Ontario’s first Small Modular Reactor (SMR), the first in the G7, being built at Darlington. In addition, the government announced the successful completion of trade missions to Romania and France, securing significant deals totalling $360 million that will support Ontario’s economy and workforce. These agreements will leverage the province’s nuclear expertise to create jobs for Ontario workers and grow the province’s nuclear-supply chain. This mission, led by Minister of Energy and Electrification Stephen Lecce, days after his appointment on Thursday June 6th 2024, along with Minister of Education Todd Smith, included the signing of new agreements with SN Nuclearelectrica S.A. (SNN) in Romania and Stellarex in France.

Electric Vehicle Charging Stations: EcoCharge IGA Becomes the First Network in the Country to Introduce Night Rates

Papillons Infrastructure Nature and Earth Day Canada announce the implementation of a preferential night rate on its EcoCharge IGA fast-charging network for electric vehicles, a first in the country. Starting June 17, 2024, electric vehicle users will benefit from a discount of 10 cents per kilowatt-hour (kWh) from 9:00 PM to 5:59 AM when charging their vehicle. This night rate will take effect alongside a shift from an hourly rate to a kWh rate, reflecting actual electricity consumption and ensuring users pay the fair price for what they consume. The rate will be set at $0.49 per kWh during the day and $0.39 per kWh at night, compared to the current rate of $22 per hour.

Hydro One Kicks off Community Drop-in Sessions to Continue Engagement on the St. Thomas Line Project

Recently, Hydro One Networks Inc. (Hydro One) announced that it will host community drop-in sessions to continue gathering local knowledge and input on the three proposed route options for the future project. Beginning May 21, 2024 – and every Tuesday and Wednesday after that until August 28 – community members can walk in or schedule an appointment between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. at the Holiday Inn Express & Suites St. Thomas to meet with the St. Thomas Line’s project team and provide their feedback or have their questions answered. Over the next several months, the company will continue to seek feedback through one-on-one meetings with property owners and other stakeholders.
