Manitoba Hydro will resume operations of its international consulting business Manitoba Hydro International (MHI), Finance Minister Adrien Sala, minister responsible for Manitoba Hydro, announced recently. “Our government is committed to keeping Manitoba Hydro public to keep rates affordable for families,” said Sala. “The previous government got rid of Manitoba Hydro International, despite the fact that it generates revenue for Hydro and helps keep rates lower. Nova Scotians in areas with no cellular service will soon have better connectivity as a result of the Province’s largest ever investment in cellular infrastructure, which will enhance existing infrastructure and add more towers over the next two years. “Nova Scotians need reliable cell service. In keeping with the Provincial Government’s commitment to work with companies interested in wind-hydrogen development, the Honourable Andrew Parsons, KC, Minister of Industry, Energy and Technology, recently announced that a 10,316-hectare Wind Hydrogen Hub Land Reserve has been established for North Atlantic Refining Limited (NARL) and that the Provincial Government has issued a Wind Hydrogen Hub Application Recommendation Letter to NARL.
The Province is contributing $2 million through its Innovative Clean Energy (ICE) fund to establish a battery innovation centre at the University of British Columbia’s Okanagan campus (UBCO). This cutting-edge facility will focus on research and development of new battery technologies, advancing B.C.’s battery supply-chain sector and growing the Okanagan region’s role as a battery and critical-mineral hub. “The battery innovation centre is a monumental step forward for British Columbia’s clean-energy transition, demonstrating the quality, leading-edge work emerging from the sector,” said Josie Osborne, Minister of Energy, Mines and Low Carbon Innovation.
