Manitoba Hydro’s second annual Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) report, released this week, outlines the Crown Corporation and its employees’ support of the communities it serves and its priorities to continue to provide Manitobans with reliable, affordable energy. “We know that Manitobans have an interest in the activities and actions we undertake as our province’s largest energy supplier and they expect us to lead as an environmental steward, a progressive and fair employer, and an active contributor to Manitoba’s social fabric and economic growth,” Manitoba Hydro President and CEO Jay Grewal said.
To meet the increased demand for electricity in downtown Gatineau, Hydro-Québec will underground four overhead distribution lines between Val-Tétreau substation and Rue Eddy. A new underground concrete duct bank approximately 2 km long will be installed to accommodate the 25-kilovolt (kV) lines. “The growth of downtown Gatineau, specifically the Hull sector, has increased the demand for electricity,” said project manager Pascale Bolduc. “Building the concrete duct bank and undergrounding the existing lines will strengthen the grid and ensure its long-term operability.”
