Ontario Power Generation’s (OPG) plans to build four small modular reactors (SMRs) are part of an enhanced provincial focus on nuclear energy that has spurred a Burlington-based company to expand and create jobs. CanREA Welcomes Hydro-Québec’s Plan to Double Renewable Energy by 2050

The Canadian Renewable Energy Association (CanREA) is pleased to see that Hydro-Québec’s “Action Plan 2035: Towards a Decarbonized and Prosperous Quebec,” which was released recently, plans to significantly increase the deployment of renewable energy to decarbonize Quebec’s economy in the coming years. Hydro-Québec plans to develop 60 TWh of renewable energy by 2035, plus an additional 150 to 200 TWh, to meet Quebec’s electricity demand by 2050, which means doubling the province’s current electricity supply.

More than $7M Invested in RVE to Democratize Access to EV Charging in North America

Recharge Véhicule Électrique (RVE) announces total investments of over $7 million to support the development and deployment of innovative solutions that democratize access to home charging for electric vehicle owners across North America. This project will eventually free up 4,000 megawatts of power from the electrical grid, and enable electric vehicle charging to be moved to off-peak hours, argues David Corbeil, president and co-founder of RVE with his sister Marie-Pier. Fondaction, Export Development Canada (EDC) and Investissement Québec each contribute $2 million and a grant of nearly $2 million from the Ministère de l’Économie, de l’Innovation et de l’Énergie completes this transaction.

BC Hydro Adding Higher-Powered Fast Chargers to Its Network

At Fully Charged LIVE Canada, BC Hydro announced it is adding higher-powered chargers to its fast-charging network with the introduction of 180-kilowatt charging units, which can add up to 180 kilometres of driving to an average electric vehicle in about 10 minutes. In addition to being faster, the units also offer dual charging or power sharing, which allows two customers to use the same charger. For example, a 180-kilowatt charger can adjust to provide two 90-kilowatt charging units and allow more drivers to access public charging stations.
